Education’s website:
www.ed.gov/parents/schools/choice/choice.html.
Who chooses the company that will provide
tutoring for my child(ren)?
The child’s parent or legal guardian chooses
the instructor.
If my child transfers to a different school
during the year, can he still receive tutoring?
Yes, if the school has met the guidelines of
NCLB. Talk to the principal.
How do you know what my child’s strengths
and weaknesses are?
At the beginning of your child’s tutoring
session, we will have his/her Individual Improvement Plan.
Additionally, all students take a Pre-test to determine what they
know and what they must learn to perform minimally at grade level.
How long does the tutoring last?
The length (weeks) of the program is based on
the child’s progress. All students receive 40-50 hours of one-on-one
instruction.
Who pays for my child’s tutoring?
The tutoring may be free for parents whose
children qualify for a free or reduced lunch. Call Wims Enterprises,
Inc. at 877-736-5803. We will answer your questions, help you
find out if your child is eligible, and help you with the enrollment
process.
My child is in special education. Can s/he
still sign up for tutoring?
Discuss with your school which providers are
approved to provide tutoring to students with special needs. At this
time, WEI does not provide those services.
My child has very good grades. Can tutoring
help him/her?
Yes. All students who enroll take a pre-test
to first determine if they are performing at grade level. Students
with very good grades who are at grade level will benefit from
tutoring to ensure they learn test taking strategies, overcome test
anxiety, and can show what they know on the OAT (Ohio Achievement
Test).
My child has a job and other activities
after school. Do you offer tutoring on weekends (Sat/Sun)?
It is our intent to provide the tutoring to
meet the needs of the family. Call us at 877-736-5803 so we
may discuss your specific needs and how we may meet them.
Do you assign homework?
We do not assign homework. The tutor will
assist the student with any homework assigned by his/her classroom
teacher.
Where are the tutoring sessions held?
Many of our school districts are able to
provide a room for the tutoring sessions. For those that cannot, we
find a place that is safe such as a library, a community center, or
other appropriate learning environment in walking distance.
English is a second language for my child.
What languages do your tutors speak?
Currently we have Spanish and Somalian tutors
in some school districts. Please call Wims Enterprises, Inc. or
email us so we may verify if the language your child needs is
available in your school district.
What does it mean to be an approved
provider?
There are state standards that must be met for
a company to be approved as a provider of Supplemental Educational
Services. Approved providers have met these standards.
I know my child will not be eligible for
free tutoring, but s/he still needs it. What can I do?
Call your child’s school and ask for other
organizations that provide tutoring.
What are the days and times tutoring is
offered?
Generally, tutoring is offered Monday through
Friday after school. Specific times are set up with each parent.
Will your tutoring help my child pass the
Ohio Achievement Test?
The goal of our SES is to help each child
perform at grade level in school. Our program is set up to determine
each child’s strengths and weaknesses. Our tutors coach them how to
close any gaps in their performance and use what they know to meet
the academic content standards of the state-of-Ohio. Also, the
practice tests they will take help them to overcome any test-taking
anxiety and learn effective test taking skills. Through their
effort, consistent attendance, and parental support the opportunity
to pass the OAT is enhanced.
How will you communicate with me to let me
know how my son or daughter is doing?
Parents will receive written reports on their
child’s performance. We also welcome phone calls to their specific
instructor. Please see your Enrollment Packet.
How long have you been providing tutoring
services?
WEI began providing educational services in
2001 with the Department of Veteran Affairs. We have been an
approved provider of SES with the state-of-Ohio since NCLB was
approved by Congress and available to parents (2002-2003 school
year).
